For this next activity, imagine you are going to select some children's work to put in their portfolios. Pick five examples from the ones below. Click in the textboxes below pictures and write about why you might select them. See the example below.

Writing Activity

Setting up a portfolio system

1. Write down your system for collecting examples of children's work so that each of the children in your program has a portfolio.

Before you begin to write your plan for a portfolio system, decide the following:

  1. How many times a month will you collect samples of the children's work. How will you involve children in the process of collecting the examples of their work. What will the steps be?
  2. What kind of work will you collect and what steps will you take to store the work and keep it in a safe place.
  3. What is the process you will use to share the portfolio during parent conferences.

2. Write down your system for portfolios. It should be at least one page long. Include a clear step-by-step description for each of the three questions above. Use transition words (such as first of all, next, then, and after) to help you make the instructions clear.

3. First, share it with your tutor.
