Negative Past Tense

You learned that regular past tense verbs end with ed, but irregular don't. What do you do when you want to make a verb negative? Add did not (or didn't ) before either a regular or irregular verb.

Regular:

The teacher didn't pick up the book.

Irregular:
She read the story.
