Running Programs (continued)
Quitting programs
You will also want to know how to stop or quit programs when you are done with them.
Like closing a book when you're done reading it for now, quitting a program
"puts everything away" and lets you safely turn off your computer. Most
computers will automatically quit any programs that are still running when they
shut down, but it's also good to do this yourself in case there are any
problems.
The most important thing to be sure of, before you quit, is that you have saved your documents.
If you quit without saving, any changes you've made will be lost. Luckily, most
programs will ask you whether to save documents if you have any open when
you quit:

It is best for you to get in the habit of saving your
documents yourself before you tell the program to quit. For almost all
programs, saving your document is done by choosing "Save" from the
"File" menu. If you have more than one document open, be sure to save and
then close each one, one at a time.
