Writing a Paragraph

A paragraph is a group of sentences about one main idea. Often a paragraph begins with a sentence about this idea. This is called the topic sentence. The rest of the paragraph gives more specific information, details, or examples that help explain the point or idea.

For example:

My worst school experience was when a teacher hit a friend of mine. One day my friend, Bobby, was talking while our third grade teacher, Ms. Crabapple, was speaking to the class. Suddenly she grabbed Bobby by the hair and lifted him up out of his seat. Then she pulled him over to the blackboard where she hit his head against the hard surface several times. I will never forget the pain on his face. I was afraid to come to school for months!
